Welcome to Wednesday. I suppose we get Wednesdays so we can appreciate the Tuesdays, right? Don't get me wrong - it's not that all Wednesdays are awful, it's just that they are among my busier days in the week and...well, they just seem long!
I got up early this morning (for me!) at 7:30 to get ready for my 8 am lesson. Will came upstairs at 7:40 to tell me that the lesson had to cancel. For me, this is a great thing. Teah always does better with my full attention than without it! So, we got a nice slow morning. Things started to pick up right around noon. Teah was fussy and I was starving, so I put her in her highchair with a piece of toast and a sippy cup and told her to fend for herself. For her, that meant throwing everything on the floor and yelling at me. Hmm...oh well. I got to eat potstickers and she enjoyed my soy sauce sprinkled rice! My baby loves rice!
I had put some meat for dinner in the sink to thaw. I finished my lunch and let the water out so I could marinate the meat. What the...?! Water...on my toes? That's not a good thing. Hmm...the counter is dry. That can only mean...oh no! Yup - look under the sink, and the pipe connected to the drain is definitely NOT connected. How does a coupling completely unscrew itself? I'm going to chalk it up to angry kitchen gnomes. I've been gone for a week and a half and they got tired of simply raiding the cupboards. They are much happier when there is eggplant to burn or fire alarms to possess. Oh, and did I mention that the plastic bag holding the meat (pork) had developed holes in it? So, the water is bloody, sticky, porky water. Gross! Teah goes on the floor while I try to clean it up before...oops. There's the knock at the door - my 12:30 is here! I cleaned it up as best I could and taught my lesson.
After the lesson, Teah went straight into bed and I finished cleaning up under the sink. Several items of good news:
1) Although I often make fun of him, Will lined every conceivable storage area with plastic packing foam when he moved in. This foam caught most of the water, saving my wooden cupboard.
2) Last year, that side of the sink had developed a slow leak in one of the pipe joints. We tightened them up, but put a bucket under the pipe, just as a precaution. This bucket caught most of the water that gushed through the drain.
3) Underneath my sink has never been so clean, sanitized (Clorox Bleach, baby!) or organized!
Teah woke up and then it was time for my 2:30 lessons. I'm never sure if it's going to be two or three. It was three today. Oh, and nobody practiced. Ha! Not only that, they didn't even know what their assignments were. Oh well - what's life without surprises, right?
Now Teah's down for another nap. As long as she's not crying, I'll just leave her in there. I'm pretty sure she tells herself bedtime stories before she goes to sleep.
Oh, and did I mention that she figured out that I squirt when she pinches me? Yup. It's definitely a Wednesday!
PS - I made Chinese BBQ Pork for dinner on the grill. Delicious! At least, it's delicious UNTIL you flame it to a crisp. Wednesdays!!!
