We woke up to ice falling from the sky. Sure, it LOOKED like Snow...but the sound as it smacked down on the leaves still covering the back lawn told me otherwise. This was ice, drifting lazily down from heaven to smack against our windows, porch, plants, trees...and dead leaves. We all cozied up in bed as long as we could...which couldn't be long, as church starts at 9 am sharp.
I was the first one up - I took my shower, made myself presentable (and COMFORTABLE!) for the day. BBJ woke up next. I changed her diaper and sent her upstairs to find her daddy and take a shower.
By the time we were all dressed and ready to go, the world was covered in a thin sheen of white...ice. Yes, I know that SNOW is ice...but this wasn't quite the same. It was just dry slush, falling out of the sky. Weird!
We drove our nice heavy 4-wheel-drive Subaru (thanks, Dad!!) to church without incident, if a little slower than normal. BBJ and I both have a nasty cough, so I didn't plan on sending her into the nursery to infect all of the OTHER nice little two year olds. (You mamas can thank me later.)
During Sacrament meeting, I stepped out "for a minute" to go to the restroom and get a drink, only to find that returning to that pew and sitting still for another half an hour was NOT high on my list of things that would make me comfortable. I was having a steady barrage of Braxton-Hicks, both painless and the more "realish" variety. I walked around for about 20 minutes, chatting with this concerned sister, or that inquisitive friend. "Yes, of course I feel fine!" "I feel fabulous, how are you?" Lo Gung and BBJ finally came to find me, and we spent the last ten minutes of the meeting wandering together, or sitting in the foyer, trying to listen. (All I got out of the meeting today was this: our time is being changed to the 1-4 slot next year...and my SINCERE condolences go out to our stalwart nursery leaders who will have approximately 12 little kids to care for, between the ages of 18 months and 3 years, ALL of whom desperately need naps.)
The 2nd and 3rd hours got a little weirder. BBJ joined first Lo Gung's Primary class, and then mine, rather than going into nursery and licking all of their toys. At some point, I realized that one of my girlfriends wasn't sitting with her class (I later found out that she was home with two sick kids of her own!) and so I offered to add her class to mine. Our lessons are from the same book - how hard could it be? Granted, I already had my own five 5 year olds...and I was attempting to add four 4 year olds. The Primary president offered to come in and sit with us, and I was happy to take her up on it! (For the record, the kids did REALLY REALLY REALLY well.)
It was a pretty great Sunday - there was one accident on the freeway on the way home, so only a small backup. It's 3 pm, the light is fading, BBJ has just passed out for her afternoon nap, I've just finished a piece of SheShe's carrot cake she made for my birthday on Wednesday and some friends invited us over for dinner tonight. Life's good!
Oh, and today is November 30...the LAST DAY OF NATIONAL BLOG POSTING MONTH. No more hastily written, 11th hour, last minute posts for y'all to get through. Woohoo! From here on out, it's only nail biting cliffhangers, updates on this pregnancy and maybe, if you're lucky, a few more installments of How I Met Lo Gung.
