Tim Tam-ariffic!

From Tim Tam

A little while back, Lorie over at Be Different....Act Normal mentioned that she had plans that involved her, a couch, some cocoa and a packet of Tim Tams. What?! Tim Tams? Here, in the U.S.? No way!

Now, if any of y'all know me in real life, you know that Tim Tams have approached religious fervor over here. I was introduced to Tim Tams during my mission in Hong Kong. When we had something to celebrate, a missionary would buy a packet of Arnott's Tim Tams, stick 'em in the freezer, and wait. That night, we'd all make ourselves a cup of cocoa, pop out the Tim Tams and SLAM them.

(You've never heard of a Tim Tam Slam? Seriously?! It's like this - freeze the Tim Tams. Nibble off both ends. Use the Tim Tam to slurp up your cocoa, like a straw, withOUT using your hands. As you feel the cookie start to disintegrate, toss your head back and SLAM IT. He who slurps longest, and SUCCESSFULLY slams the cookie back, wins!)

I have been on the lookout for Tim Tams since I've been back...going on 5 years. I look in every Asian market I go to, seeing as I first had them in Hong Kong. I've checked every market I've visited in Canada, since they're foreign and all. Once, I saw Tim Tams advertised at Cost Plus World Market. However, when I got there...the cupboard was bare, so to speak. They were all sold out!

(Never fear - I HAVE had Tim Tams in the past four years. Lo Gung and I visited Hong Kong, and we brought back three boxes with us. Those of you who have partaken of my Tim Tams, please know how special you are!)

Now, with all that background...imagine how excited I was when a representative from a PR firm contacted me and offered to send me a free box of Tim Tams, in exchange for a review! Turns out Pepperidge Farms has started selling Tim Tams in the US, and they are available for a limited time at Target!

That was on a Friday. My package arrived on Monday. Of course, I couldn't wait that long, so Lo Gung and I hit the local Target and picked up two more packages of our own. Good thing, too - the PR rep sent us a new flavor that I had never seen before! Now, we have quite the selection.

The box we received had the familiar Pepperidge Farms white color scheme, but the cookies were all that I remembered...with the addition of a thin ribbon of caramel running through the middle. I have to admit, as a good little America-raised girl...I appreciated the ultra sweetness of the caramel. They aren't quite authentic, but they do hit that chocolate spot!

And the Original Tim Tams that we bought from Target, in milk chocolate? Oh, those are delightful, too!

  3. Hi Aunt LoLo,

I just wanted to thank you for your comment!

I'm allergic to chocolate, and while I normally indulge anyway, right now I'm breastfeeding and it gives my daughter a rash - so I'll have to wait at least a couple months before I give these a try. Maybe once I finish the Girl Scout cookies that are waiting for me!
