Not that we necessarily did these things last minute...but I thought, since tomorrow is Halloween, I would share some of our Halloween fun with you.
You know, just in case you hadn't done up your pumpkins yet.

Every year, I cook up our jack o' lantern pumpkins so that I can have pumpkin puree ready through the winter. (Mmmm...pumpkin bread!) This year, to combat the mold issue, we decided to forego the whole carving thing. Enter - washable paints! No mess on clothes...and I can scrub off the pumpkins when I'm ready to cook 'em. Coo, right? You know, just in case you hadn't done up your pumpkins yet.

Siu Jeun felt a little left out.
BBJ's hair had a little run in with her masterpiece.
But I think the pumpkins were happy about this kinder, gentler form of Halloween fun!
*To cook a jack o lantern pumpkin: Deseed and hack it into pot-sized pieces. Steam the pumpkin until soft, and take off the peel. Puree, and place into a tea-towel lined colandar. Let it drain for a few hours, portion out into zip top baggies and freeze. Voila! Of course, if you're using a pie pumpkin, you could skip the whole draining thing.

I tried to talk the kids into painting the pumpkins this year, but it didn't work. We'll be doing some last minute carving tonight or tomorrow. Oh well. :)
ReplyDeletewhat, no paint for sj?? aww...poor guy!
ReplyDeleteWe actually haven't done our pumpkins yet, haha. I think we're going to paint them--I'm not a huge fan of pumpkin guts.
ReplyDeleteDo you know that we can now buy big giant pumpkins for carving at Park n Shop --at a ridiculous price (of course!)?
