Siu Jeun Goes to Preschool

This? Is how Siu Jeun goes to Pre-School.

Let me give you some background. First off, the day. It started out with swim lessons at the YMCA. Followed by a quick trip to the McDonald's drive-thru for lunch because that's what we do every other Monday. A cheeseburger with extra pickles and a yogurt parfait for SJ, and a happy meal for Ming Wai (earned with her Yes, Ma'am chart - every happy Yes, Ma'am earns her a check. 40 checks is a happy meal). Followed by a loop around the block and back to the drive thru because Mama drove away with the hamburger and parfait...and left the happy meal behind. Book it up the hill to my mother's house, because I know my sister is already there and she is on a tight schedule to get her 4 year old dropped off and get her 8 year old back down the hill for her weekly sewing lesson with a neighbor. Why the rush for me? I had 3 dozen empty canning jars in my trunk that she desperately needed to finish processing 4 cases of ripe peaches. By now, the baby is howling in the back seat. It is 30 minutes past her lunch time, and she is pretty mad. I probably could have organized the next 10 minutes better, but...hey. Do what you can, eh? I pulled in behind my sister, quickly shooed SJ out the door, and loaded my jars into her trunk. I then moved my car into the street, begged Ming Wai to keep Baby Ying Ying happy for just a few minutes, and then ran back to my mother's driveway to ask the two four year olds and my mother to pose for a picture.

So. Too big cowboy boots, a hand me down from a generous neighbor. Normal, every day shirt and shorts. A hastily posed picture, on the first day of my hasty and every day little boy. Perfect.

(Siu Jeun and Cousin MiMi will be taking Pre-School at my mother's house this year. They meet twice a week, and are using a home-school Kindergarten curriculum from Calvert School.)
