Reflecting on our Week

This week can be summed up fairly succinctly. (BBJ is getting much more mobile, busy and cantankerous, so I haven't had much time to blog. Sorry!)

On Monday we taught piano lessons from 10:30 until 1 pm. BBJ was pretty good, so that's all that can be expected!

On Tuesday....I don't remember what we did. Sorry.

On Wednesday, a good friend called and asked me to help her make bread, since she had never done it before. We went to her house...and she had no flour! Never fear - food storage lady is here! (That would be my dear friend, not my dear self! My food storage consists of random cans of vegetables that were on sale.) She hauled out an enormous bag of whole wheat, and a grinder. We went at it for an hour, alternately juggling babies and snatching up BBJ before she could do any harm to herself or our host's home, before we had enough flour to proceed. (I'm told the bread turned out very nice!) Also, BBJ got to meet her dog - a lovely little dachshund. Pepper loved BBJ, mainly because this is how BBJ ate her breakfast before hand:

Pepper happily licked BBJ up and down, and BBJ didn't mind! I think BBJ really liked Pepper...until Pepper barked. Louder than BBJ can yell. And BBJ was jealous. And angry. And scared. So, she cried every time the dog looked at her for the rest of the time we were there.

Until my dear friend had a great idea - let Pepper eat some of our lunch out of BBJ's hand. After a few rounds of that (who doesn't like to feed treats to dogs??), BBJ seemed to be ok.

On Thursday, we went to visit my grandmother. My mother and two sisters came with, and Mom brought her own home grown corn. This is how BBJ helped my little sister shuck the corn:

( That's her own little sign...that thing she's doing with her mouth. Can you guess what it means? Yes, very good! That means, "Ooh, I'm open! Toss it here! Put whatever that thing is - I think it looks like food - right here!)

That afternoon, we went to my big sister's house for some treats and to just sit and chat while both girls were in good spirits. Cousin E is dreadfully afraid of BBJ. Whenever BBJ looks at her, Cousin E flaps her arms and yells, "oooh, a bibi! OOOh, a bibi!" (No, Cousin E still can't say baby. My next child may be BiBi Jyu...we'll have to wait and see! Luckily for Cousin E, she's saying it perfectly...if she lived in Hong Kong. ;-) Cousin E also taught herself to say "Naughty Baby" in Cantonese. I can't imagine where she heard that one, can you? ;-))

I decided, since letting BBJ feed Pepper had worked so well in quelling her fear...maybe it would work for E? We were all sitting on the kitchen floor, eating cheese. I asked Cousin E if she wanted to give BBJ a treat? Next thing you know, BBJ is eating cheese out of E's chubby little hand and all is right in the world...until BBJ misses the cheese and nips E's thumb. Oh well - maybe E is scared for a reason!

That night, we went to a friend's house for (a delicious, Greek) dinner. They, themselves, are the proud parents of a beautiful little blond baby girl, so they took pity on BBJ's moods, tempers and bursts of energy. Finally, relief. I had always heard that babies, everywhere, love the Bumbo chairs because, when placed in said chair, they can sit up and face the world, well, in the face...long before their own torsos have volunteered for the task.

By the time we thought of buying such a thing for BBJ, her thighs were already almost too big to fit in the chair!

Thursday evening, we found a new use for this fabulous piece of baby equipment. Our friends had purchased one for their baby, and it was sitting vacant by the fireplace while we were trying to have grown up conversation. (Ok, we were watching weird Japanese YouTube videos...but at least we weren't talking about diapers!) It seemed like a good idea at the time, so I picked up my little bundle of energy and jammed her down into the chair. Not only was she stuck like the proverbial finger in the Dutch Dyke, but she liked it! I was half expecting her to crawl away, with that Bumbo hanging off her Bumb like a barnacle. (Maybe that's why they call it Bumbo?)

On Friday, we went to Auntie M's house (there, now big sister has a name! Auntie M.) Auntie M. decided it was time for BBJ to feed herself spaghetti...with sauce. What a fun time we had! Auntie M, Auntie M.....I'm sure glad it was your house and not mine!

Oh, and BBJ learned a new, fun way to point! Don't take it personally!
