The Sequel to the Saga

So, just an update on BBJ, for any and all relatives and/or friends who might have been following our Tick saga.

To recap: BBJ was bit by a tick on Friday. A little, bitty tick. It never engorged, I think it was only there for about half an hour. I found it in the shower right after we went outside.

My father warned me to look out for Lyme Disease symptoms. My landlord's daughter caught Lyme Disease when she lived here. One of my friends has four nieces and nephews that live out here...three of them have had Lyme Disease. Nice odds, right?

A few symptoms of Lyme Disease include a bullseye rash (that occurs in less than half of all Lyme Disease cases) and flu like symptoms, 3-30 days after the bite.

So, BBJ got bit on Friday...one, two, three....on Monday she came down with a fever. That made me just SUPER happy. Grr...I gave her Tylenol and tried to get her to drink something.

On Tuesday morning, she still had her fever. I made an appointment to see a doctor that afternoon, 24 hours after the fever started, and waited out the day. BBJ was on house arrest, because I found another tick on her on Monday, but it hadn't bit her yet.

We made our way to the doctor's office where Lyme Disease was quickly ruled out. Ear infection was ruled out. (I was worried about that one - I had earaches every year from the time I was born until I was about 10 years old.) Then sweet Doctor G. looked in her throat (which she HATED) and announced he'd need to take a throat culture, to test for strep.

She hated that even more, y'all. Some dude sticking a 8 inch Q-Tip down her throat? Yeah, not so much fun.

The results came back from the test and my baby has......

a sore throat. That's it. Yeah - I'm THAT Mom. I took my baby to the doctor's for a sore throat. Ha! He told me to keep giving her Tylenol for the fever, and as much fluid as possible, to help with the soreness.

Thus ends our saga. The end.

Do you know how many times I've taken my boys to the doctor....sure that it is some horrible sickness...and told "it's just a virus".

    Ugh!

  3. I would've done the same thing too! (especially if my daughter had been bitten by a tick!) Growing up in TX I know how horrible those stupid things are. Each night at girl's camp we had to do "tick checks" on each other to make sure we didn't have any on us. They are so disgusting huh!

  4. well, I JUST got back from bringing my kid to the doctor for a rash, so I'm totally understanding that. Better safe than sorry. I would have totally freaked out about the tick.

I'd love to see your itty bitty dress once you finish it!!!

  6. Ok, so I am SO "that" mom as well. And really after the tick, I think you did good by waiting several days. I would have forced a dr. appt. way before then even if there was no fever!

You did the right thing. Peace of mind is worth tons!
