A Little Bit o' School Time

BBJ has really been enjoying our "school" every morning.
I picked up a few inexpensive color and number workbooks, plus a rather large workbook with just about everything a preschooler could possibly learn in a year.
Every weekday morning, when Siu Jeun goes down for his first nap, I turn to BBJ and tell her it's time to get ready for "school." She pulls up her chair, gets out her crayons, and waits for me to play.
I'm learning to...let go. I never realized, until I had a two year old, how very controlling I am. I want her to do one page from each book a day, with the colors proscribed, and then stop and move on to another activity when she's done.
That's not usually how it works. (Not unless I want a screaming toddler to wake up my baby!)
I'm still a stickler on the colors...I mean, what's the point of "school" if there aren't a few rules? But, lately, we've been going on and doing more pages than we usually would. She learns better by repetition, anyhow. (I learned that during our bedtime stories. Once she has heard a book often enough, she can then read it back to me. Granted, it takes about 10-15 times through a book...but still. Oh, and I've also learned that it's impossible for her to sing or recite without dancing and grooving. Heh.)Posted by Picasa

  1. Oh, you're a great mum! Wish it was like that at our house. It is a lot less structured. A. Lot.

  2. Way to let go! That's what she needs right now - so keep working at it. I was a Control Freak (A! Freak!) when I taught school prior to becoming a momma. Then I met the Tongginator. Heh. I'll be a MUCH better teacher now if I ever return to work.

  3. Somewhere around the time I discovered that when marker tips come through, they can tint toilet water, I sort of gave up. I salute you staying true to you!
